Twisted double loops interwoven by intricately braided threads of silver. Very sturdy piece in excellent vintage condition, minor bubbling on the back of clasp but mechanism in excellent condition. Box clasp missing the safety guard loop but this does not affect the mechanism or integrity of the piece. Hallmarked "STERLING CB" on the back of clasp. Rare piece, I have never seen anything like it.
Charm bracelets originate from Victorian England, another fashion popularized by non other than Queen Victoria who was known for wearing charm bracelets during her reign. Lockets were often worn on charm bracelets, in addition to collected coins. The most highly collectible (and fun!) were "mechanical charms", those with movable parts.
In the 19th century, charms were used to express one's personality, thus collecting charms representative of interests, hobbies and milestones. The fashion persists today, with vintage and contemporary options - but the vintage pieces have much more charm.
