Made from green post back costume earrings and ruby-coloured beads from a discarded necklace. The post back earring is unverifiable metal and likely not hypoallergenic.
Inspired by the Red Ball Cactus, Gymnocalycium mihanovichii, which is a red, orange or yellow bud-like flower with no petals or spikes. They are neither flower nor cacti like despite being both, and are a grafted specimen, meaning its cactus host can be just about any species. Plus, they defy rules of nature by growing in the most inhabitable climates with very little water. These earrings were created with these rebellious, resilient rule breakers in mind.
Renaissance pieces are (re)designed and hand made in Canada, and are made from discarded and pre-loved jewelry. Due to the vintage and secondhand nature of the parts used, most pieces are made from alloyed metals and may show signs of wear. All parts and pieces used in the creation of jewelry are carefully selected by the maker despite minor imperfections. Asymmetrical designs and differentiation in pieces and colours are intentional. Each design is unique and one of a kind.
